Wall House
Kilagal, Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Nepal

The Wall House Prototype is an affordable, sustainable, and seismically resilient alternative to concrete-frame structures while also being capable of adhering to the aesthetic standards of traditional communities.

The Wall House Prototype implements a reinforced masonry system called the quetta bond. This mode of construction offers improved seismic resilience to masonry construction, while maintaining the aesthetics of traditional buildings at a lower cost. The system is easy to build and also allows the use of recycled bricks to reduce cost as well as carbon emissions.

The roof structure and its integration with the stairwell improve the ventilation and daylighting of the building relative to existing practices. The skylight within the roof structure draws air up through the building, allowing for stack ventilation regardless of the neighbouring conditions.
