Core House
Kilagal, Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Nepal

The Core House Prototype is an affordable, sustainable, and seismically resilient alternative to concrete-frame structures while also being capable of adhering to the aesthetic standards of traditional communities.

The Core House centralises all vertical structure in the building to the centre of the site to avoid any potential damage from neighbouring buildings during a seismic event. Steel struts cantilever from a reinforced core, thereby allowing for a lightweight building skin system which does not carry load down to the ground.

The Core House can be easily divided internally between multiple families, or split into apartments as residents need, aiming to resolve the subdivision of housing plots that is so prevalent throughout the Kathmandu Valley today.
